: David Bogopa is currently Head of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Nelson Mandela University (NMU) in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

David holds two Masters degrees, one in Anthropology and one in Development Studies.

During his academic tenure, he has successfully supervised 13 Honours degree students as well as several MA research projects in Anthropology in addition to a number of MA projects in his second field of scholarly interest, that of Development Studies.

David’s work has been published in a number of peer reviewed journals, and he has two chapters in scholarly specialist academic books as well as having authored the book ‘Shebeen Culture in South Africa’ (2012).
